Parking and transportation tips, fall 2020 graphic

Fall 2020 Parking Tips

Parking on campus this semester may be less crowded than usual due to fewer in-person classes. However, campus construction and upcoming city road realignment projects may affect traffic patterns. Here are some helpful things to consider when parking and moving about campus:

  • Parking permits are required to park anytime the University is open. Permits are virtual; there are no decals or hanging tags. Learn more about permit types and pricing information.
  • Easily purchase your permit online through UNCC MyPark.

  • Discounted $4 daily permits for North Deck are temporarily available on Parkmobile for weekday parking from Thursday, Oct. 1 to Wednesday, Oct. 7.

  • Parking demand is not expected to be as high as is typical during the first two weeks of the semester. The Parking Availability website shows campus deck parking availability in real-time. 
  • Follow @unccparking on Twitter for news about detours, delays and other relevant information.

Traffic tips

  • Peak traffic times are 7:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Parking at The Dubois Center at UNC Charlotte Center City 

Niner Transit bus service

  • Niner Transit is fare-free and provides non-stop service until 2 a.m., even on weekends. A new Red Express line will run during peak hours at the busiest stops. The Copper line will no longer be in service. Learn more about fall transit service.
  • Due to social distancing protocols, bus occupancy has been limited to 19 riders. Plan ahead and be prepared to wait for the next bus. Learn more about COVID 19-related changes and how to ride Niner Transit this semester.
  • Masks are required while boarding, riding and disembarking buses.
  • Visit UNCC NextRide or download the app for bus routes and real-time bus tracking. Follow @UNCCNextRide for service changes and notices. 

  • Paratransit service is available for those with an ongoing or temporary disability. Learn more about how to arrange paratransit service.

Bikes and e-scooters

  • Gotcha Mobility offers short-term, e-scooter and pedal-assist bike rentals for affordable prices. Fifty e-scooters and 65 pedal-assist Gotcha™ bikes are located in hubs across campus. 

  • Bicycle lockers are also available for rental to store your personal bike.

CATS All-Access Transit Pass

  • Student 49er Cards serve as a pass to unlimited, fare-free rides on CATS LYNX light rail, streetcar and all CATS bus routes. The CATS all-access transit pass is provided to students through the Miscellaneous Transportation Service Charge (MTSC).

  • There are 11 Park & Ride stations along the Blue Line. While parking is free at most Park & Ride stations, CATS charges a fee to exit the decks at the J.W. Clay/UNC Charlotte and University City Boulevard stations unless riders have a valid CATS daily, weekly or monthly pass. As a student, your CATS All-Access Transit Pass does not include parking fees incurred at a CATS facility.

Pedestrians on campus

  • Pedestrians have the right-of-way at all crosswalks unless there is a traffic signal. The traffic circle at Mary Alexander and Van Landingham Roads and the crosswalk in front of the Student Union are controlled by a traffic signal, which must be obeyed by both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
